I view algebra like a game: there are simple rules that govern what you can do, and if you know and understand the rules, the game is a whole lot easier. If algebra seems to be a struggle for a student, I can help them identify the basic concepts (i.e. rules) on which they need to strengthen their understanding. Algebra is an essential tool I use to solve a myriad of problems every day as an engineer, and so I am intimately familiar with its many different topics, and perhaps because I understand its value, I genuinely enjoy teaching algebra to others.

I remember what it was like to personally struggle with algebra, and I know the most common pitfalls which make it seem more difficult than it actually is. Because of this experience, I am quite adept on picking up on my students' weak points, and helping them clear up fuzzy understandings of the rules of algebra. My name is Junia. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Biology at the University of Central Florida (UCF). In college, I was in the Dean’s and President lists. I also had an honor scholarship which shows that I am driven by success at high standards. I hold an Advanced National Tutor Certificate. I have tutored many students in math, ESOL, and science over the past 10 years across all age groups with a very high success rate. My goals as a tutor are to offer an excellent and targeted learning which addresses specific learning challenges that the student is currently facing, to equip students with exam preparation strategies, and help them learn techniques that enable them to achieve and succeed in their subjects. I know algebra like the back of my hand, and I can prove it to you! Middle school, high school, college, university, and adult students have seen me for algebra tutoring for over 10 years. I can explain the fundamentals without a textbook, and I always offer simpler ways to understand difficult concepts and solve problems. As a teacher, I try to make algebra easier for everyone. Learning how to analyze math should be interesting and helpful, not a painful memory. Whether for school, work or test prep, students discover how far their mastery of algebra can take them in life.

This course is designed to emphasize the study of multiple representations of linear and non-linear functions. Students will use hands-on materials and calculators when needed in solving problems where the algebra concepts are applied.

I am an MIT tutor specializing in math and science, and I have taught math anywhere between pre-algebra and calculus (including algebra) for 5 years. I have received perfect scores on both SAT Math, ACT Math, and SAT Math Level 2 (SAT Subject Test). I have taken AP Calculus BC while in high school, and I have taken Multivariable Calculus and Differential Equations at MIT, and I actively participated in many math competitions through elementary, middle, and high schools.

Before the lessons, I like to talk with parents, students, and/or teachers to fully gauge what they have been struggling with and how to best help them. Then I identify the student's gap in knowledge while helping them complete their homework and give them additional drilling problems as needed to help them fully master the materials and do well on their tests.
