In my studio, I believe that my role is to steer students toward a deeper understanding of themselves, their instrument, and their relationship to music. I tailor my teaching to the needs of my individual students, who currently range from age 7 to adult, often adding improvisation and extended techniques to increase my students awareness of the potential of the flute as a channel for ones creativity.

I believe that the most important aspect of learning is a positive and comfortable environment that encourages and facilitates growth! My studio ranges from ages 9 to adult and from beginner to advanced.
Through my own studies I have experienced many different teaching styles and philosophies, and have developed my own method to help my students progress quickly and efficiently.
Every lesson will begin with a discussion about the students practicing so that we can celebrate growth and work together through challenges.
Students will be asked to study technical and tone exercises as well as repertoire that will help them progress in the necessary areas. I will help my students choose pieces that are appropriate and enjoyable.
If a student would like to study a popular song then I will gladly write my own arrangement for them. We can also learn to play by ear and improvise.
For my online students I will record solos, duets, and piano parts to pieces that we cannot play ...

Playing the flute has given me so much joy, and it is my dream to pass that joy along to others. Whether you're just starting out, picking the flute up after a long time away, or looking to hone your skills, I can help you reach your flute goals! In all my lessons, beginner to advanced, students learn how to make beautiful music, sight read, understand basic music theory, and practice safely. We work out of the Rubank method book, but I also utilize handwritten exercises and songs. I also always encourage my students to bring music they want to learn. I've covered everything from classical and jazz music to pop songs and show tunes!
Absolute Beginners: In our very first lesson, students learn the parts of the flute and how to make a sound. We learn about flute care, and how to correctly hold the flute. Basic music theory is introduced at this level, once the student can consistently make a sound with the headjoint. Securing the basics at this level is very important, but with games ...
