Ready to learn some pro techniques on one of the most fun, portable, and soulful instruments out there?
The chromatic harmonica was my first instrument which I taught myself by ear at the age of 5, so all ages are welcome in my harmonica class. The harmonica is perfect for playing melodies. I can play "blues harp" as well which is also a lot of fun and has a different kind of expressive feel with the bending. Whichever one you're interested in learning, I can help you hit the ground sprinting with one of the most portable and enjoyable instruments out there! It's all about the feeling and the fun of it!

Harmonica, also known as the "Mouth Harp" is a very easy, practical and fun little instrument for all ages! You can take this little gem of an instrument wherever you go.
We will start with the very basics of how to hold the harmonica correctly, proper mouth position, how to achieve a nice, clean sound when blowing and drawing (putting it simply, drawing your breath back in, inhaling.)
The items you will need is a Harmonica in the key of C and a Lesson Book.
Harmonicas come in various keys, but the key you will need to learn when signing up in the TakeLessons platform will be the KEY OF C.
Once you have signed up, either for yourself, or a child, I will then send you an email with the link where you can purchase the lesson book that we will
work out of. Once you have a good foundation and are comfortable playing the harmonica, we can then determine what genre or style of music you would like to play. There are books that have a nice selection of songs that cover bluegrass, ...

Also known as a mouth organ or French harp, the harmonica is a free reed wind instrument, meaning it produces sound when wind passes over a reed encased in a frame. The harmonica is played all around the world, but perhaps most notably in American blues and folk music.
A versatile instrument, there are several different sizes and types of harmonicas that play in different keys and produce a variety of tones, such as the diatonic, minor, major and 12-hole. Harmonica players use their hands, tongue, lips, and breath to control the tone, volume, and notes as they're played.
Capable of producing a range of sounds, harmonica music can be both uplifting and melancholy. This nifty instrument can be tucked into a pocket, played on the back porch, on a walk in the park, or anywhe
re that suits you.
Why Learn to Play Harmonica?
For such a small instrument, the harmonica delivers big health benefits. A major part of harmonica technique involves breathing exercises aimed to increase lung capacity. Not only does greater lung capacity improve technique, it's also good for patients with lung disorders, like COPD.
Harmonica playing resembles a common rehabilitation exercise used on pulmonary patients. When playing the harmonica, you must inhale and exhale forcefully against the instrument. This action strengthens the diaphragm and deepens breathing.
The meditative combination of deep breathing and focus associated with playing the harmonica can also regulate the heart rate, lower blood pressure, and reduce anxiety. In addition, deep belly breathing will strengthen your core muscles, improving posture and slimming your waistline. Harmonica is also used to treat patients with facial paralysis and Parkinson's disease.
