My approach is fun, simple, and easy to understand. I focus on getting a strong foundation and excellent first experience with music. The child will be given a lesson and theory book to work from, but will also be encouraged to sing music they personally like. This keeps the child motivated to practice and adds an element of fun! These songs can then be used in our recitals, for auditions, or put in their personal repertoire book.
I have also successfully prepared many students for their Cab Calloway School for the Arts auditions and have made it in.

I had always wanted to learn singing and am glad I finally did start. Michelle has a wonderful teaching style! She is always smiling, very encouraging, very patient, giving constructive feedback yet making the lessons very enjoyable. She is also very flexible in scheduling, which was super helpful. Michelle has a beautiful voice too!
Michelle - I really appreciate your professionalism and upbeat attitude! I will be back soon:)"

Moreover, she’s incredibly humble. Despite clearly being skilled at singing, she never makes it a point to come off as unapproachable. She innately understands the importance of the learning spirit and how to create a space that fosters it. If you were on the fence about choosing Leah as an instructor, there’s no need to be."

Singing brings people together, whether in choirs, concerts, or just amongst friends. One of the most powerful instruments in the world is built into our bodies, and learning how to use this innate instrument can bring about a lifetime of musical expression.
Many aspiring singers have the misconception that people are either born with innate singing talent or not. While it’s true that some young singers can quickly pick up vocal skills, the majority of great singers have worked with voice coaches for years. Even if you have some natural singing abilities, it’s still important to hone your skills if you want to reach your full potential.
So, how exactly can you improve those skills? For starters, signing up for private voice lessons here at TakeLessons is a prime place to s
tart. Under the instruction of a professional voice coach, you will receive the guidance you need to fulfill all your musical goals!
Why Take Voice Lessons?
While everyone can open their mouths and sing, the sound that comes out isn’t always on key. And that’s where singing lessons come into play. When you work one-on-one with a voice coach, you’ll learn how to train and control your voice and make the sounds you wish to make.
Not only that, but taking singing lessons will develop your ability to confidently participate in the joy of music, whether by joining a choir, singing at a karaoke bar, or landing a gig in the music business. Studying music with a voice coach also imparts a whole range of non-musical benefits for both adults and children.
Benefits of Singing Lessons for Adults
In music therapy, singing is often used for healing purposes; it imparts positive emotional and mental benefits. Adults who participate in music display sharper cognitive abilities and better memory function. Singing has also been shown to improve your posture and breathing.
Singing lessons for adults give older students the tools they need not only to develop their musical skills but to explore the many benefits singing can have on their mind and body. It’s never too late to begin your singing journey.
Benefits of Singing Lessons for Kids
Singing lessons for kids provides the perfect avenue for helping your child develop their cognitive abilities. Several studies show a clear link between children who take music lessons and increased intelligence, better grades, and improved focus. Studying music uses a variety of brain processes related to reading, memory, listening, synthesizing, and coordination.
Practicing music in childhood appears to improve mathematical ability, memory, cognitive function, and spatial intelligence. Studying music also benefits children later in life. Adults who studied music as children show a greater capacity for hearing and understanding language.
What You'll Learn in Vocal Lessons
Whether you want to take your vocal skills to the stage or just sing better around the house, private lessons are the way to go. You'll benefit from prompt feedback and personalized instruction that you just can't get in a larger choir or simply watching video tutorials. Lesson by lesson, your voice coach will lay out a clear path for reaching your vocal goals.
When you sign up for private singing lessons through TakeLessons, we invite you to choose your singing teacher. We feature a long list of certified teachers in your area, so you can browse their profiles and read about their background and experience until you find your ideal match.
Once you’ve made your choice, your private teacher will sit down with you and assess your current skills and inquire about your musical goals. Do you want to build up the confidence to try out for your school musical? Or maybe you’d like to fine-tune your skills for your upcoming performance? Whatever the goal, your singing teacher will tailor your lessons to suit your needs.
What’s more, your professional voice teacher will be able to see any weak points that a director of a choir or group class may not notice. This way, you’ll avoid developing bad habits that can impede your progress down the road or even lead to damaging your voice.
In vocal lessons, you'll learn how to bring the best out of your voice, resulting in your own unique musical expression. This involves developing your tone, your pitch control, and your breathing. You may also study music theory and different musical genres or work on specific songs in order to perfect your technique. Most students will begin to hear improvement in just a couple of weeks.
And to top it off, you get to call the shots and decide what you want to work on during your sessions. For instance, maybe you want to focus on a specific genre. If that’s the case, you’re in luck. Here at TakeLessons, you can find voice coaches who specialize in jazz, opera, R&B, rock, gospel, classical, pop, and much more.
